How to Fix File System Error 2147219196 in Photos App?

While opening the Windows Photo app on Windows 10, you might come across a file system error” 2147219196.” This error prevents you from opening the particular app. It occurs most of the time when there has been some glitch in updating the Windows app.

Method 1 Update the Photos App

  1. Click Start and reach the Microsoft Store.
  2. Click on the three dots on the upper right corner and select Downloads and updates.

Method 2 Uninstall and Reinstall the Windows Photo App

  1. Press the Windows Key and search for Windows PowerShell. Select Run as administrator.
  2. Type the following command:
    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos| Remove-AppxPackage


    Press Enter.

  3. The process gets initialized.
  4. Open the Windows Sysinternals website and download PsExec tool from the PsTools package.
  5. The file will be downloaded in zip format. Right-click on the file and select Extract files. Select the location and extract the files.

  6. Press the Windows key again and type Command Prompt.
  7. Right on the Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  8. Type the command:
    <psexec location address>PSExec.exe –sid c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe


    Press Enter.
    Note: Include the actual location in the address where all the contents of the extracted files were downloaded.

  9. Under the PsExec License Agreement, click on Agree.
  10. Once you press Enter, a new command prompt will open.
  11. Type the command:
    rd /s “C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2017.37071.16410.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe”


    Hit Enter.
    Please note that the version number in the Windows Photo App will vary depending on which version of the Photos App has been installed. You can fetch the exact folder name by following below mentioned steps.

    1. Open the Run utility and type the folder path. Let it autocomplete it.
    2. Once the folder name is autocompleted, copy the path and paste it on the Command Prompt.
  12. Press Y when the system asks for confirmation.

Method 3 Run the Microsoft Troubleshooter

  1. Press the Windows key and I button simultaneously.
  2. Select the Update & Security option.
  3. Select Troubleshoot from the left pane.
  4. Scroll and click on the Windows Store Apps.
  5. Select Run the troubleshooter option.
  6. The issue will be fixed by the troubleshooter.
