MS Outlook is one of the most trusted desktop and web email clients used by individuals and corporations. There might be a case when Outlook classifies important mails from contacts as junk and filter them into the junk folder automatically. Due to this, you might miss any critical correspondence which can cost you big time, later on. However, since November 2018, Microsoft has considerably improved Outlook’s ability to automatically classify and filter malicious and phishing emails by introducing AI-based techniques. Nonetheless, many vital mails are classified as spam or junk. The Outlook is highly customizable and can be made to adapt as per your requirements. To do so, one can easily create filtering rules, allowing mails from specific contacts in the Inbox. If you don’t want to lose any of your mails, then you can also turn off the junk email filter to allow all the emails into your Inbox (including junk mails). A better option in our opinion, is to teach Outlook to better classify between important emails and spams. In this post, we are just going to discuss that in detail. Following are some of the ways to prevent emails from going to the junk folder in Outlook:

Method #1 Changing the Level of Junk email Protection

By default, the email protection level is set to No Automatic Filtering. However, one can change this setting by following the steps outlined below:
 1. Click on Home > Junk > Junk E-mail Options. This will open a new window.
 2. Click on Home > Junk > Junk E-mail Options.” class=”wp-image-5494″>

Select the level of protection accordingly. After selecting the email protection level, click on Apply > OK.

OK” class=”wp-image-5509″>

Note: It is also possible to permanently delete suspected junk emails instead of moving them to the junk folder by checking the Permanently delete suspected junk email instead of moving it to the junk Email folder option.

Select the mail/ sender that you want to mark as not spam.

Under the Home tab, click on Junk.

You can easily add a sender to a trusted sender list so that you never miss out on any emails from the people on this list. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below:
 1. Go to the junk folder and select the email that you would like to add as not junk.
 2. Select Junk > Never Block Sender.
 3. Select Junk > Never Block Sender” class=”wp-image-5509″>

Note: Alternatively, you can also select Never Block this Group or Mailing List.

Next, select the email address to add it to the safe list finally.

Method #4 Outlook PST Repair

If you have already tried all of the above methods and still unable to restore the emails in the junk folder to their respective locations, then it is an indicator of some issue with the PST file. It is a very well-known fact that the PST files are vulnerable to corruption. Additionally, the inbuilt inbox repair tool- scanpst.exe can only repair minor corruption issues. To repair damaged or severely corrupt PST files, one needs a professional PST repair tool such as Outlook PST Recovery. Conclusion

Sometimes, Outlook, on its own, classifies an important mail as junk. It is, therefore essential to create filtering rules. In this post, we have discussed three manual ways using which you can tell Outlook which emails/senders to block or not. Finally, there might be a case when restoring emails to their original positions is not possible due to severe PST file corruption. In such a scenario, one can rely on the Outlook PST Recovery tool.
